About Us

I-Kidz Children's Clinic provides a child-friendly “outer-space” environment for children as they consult with the doctor. The comfortable and caring clinic has a futuristic theme with rocket ships, stars and planets, as we believe that children are our future! Children can watch cartoons or while away with books and toys. Many look forward to “blast-off” with the rocket ship and to the little snack after the consult. The clinic is conveniently located at Paragon Medical, along Orchard Road.

Our specialist, Dr Irene Chan, together with her team of fully trained paediatric staff, are familiar with children’s needs, and have the expertise to serve our next generation with compassion and competence, to provide good communication to parents and child, for a comprehensive and professional paediatric care.

Specialty Interest: Paediatric Intensive Care

Dr Irene Chan is a graduate of the National University of Singapore and has worked in paediatric units in Singapore General Hospital (SGH), National University Hospital (NUH) and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH). She has more than 25 years of clinical experience in paediatrics. With her passion in caring for the critically ill, she became one of the first pioneers to be trained in paediatric intensive care in Singapore. Her training in intensive care was at the renowned Harvard’s Children’s Hospital in Boston. She then returned to establish Singapore’s first Children’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in KKH in 1997, becoming the first Head of the ICU from 1997 to 2003. Thereafter, she led the Department of Paediatrics in KKH from 2003 to 2006 as Head, before starting private practice. In 2003, Dr Chan was one of the first to volunteer to care for the children affected by the then unknown epidemic - SARS. For that work and many others, she became one of the first doctors to be awarded the Healthcare Humanity award in 2006.

With her keen interest in teaching, Dr Chan has also played a major role in establishing Paediatric Resuscitation protocols and training in Singapore, and was involved in setting guidelines for such training in the National Resuscitation Council. She is presently still very active in teaching paediatric resuscitation to undergraduates, doctors and nurses both in NUH and KKH. She is also an instructor to the Advanced Paediatric Life Support and Fundamental Critical Care Courses in Singapore.

Our Specialist has given numerous public presentations and lectures at local, regional and international meetings and conferences, and has written and edited handbooks on paediatrics and resuscitation as well as papers in scientific journals. Dr Chan was also involved in helping to establish better critical care to children all around the world when she was Board Member of the World Federation of Paediatric Critical and Intensive Care Societies from 2004 to 2007.

Besides training and teaching local doctors and nurses, Dr Chan has also been actively involved in training paediatrics in other countries like Cambodia, China and Myanmar in collaboration with various NGOs. She has also taught in countries like India, Vietnam and Mauritius. She was awarded for such work by the Singapore Volunteer Overseas, Singapore International Foundation in 2007.

Dr Chan enjoys her work as she loves children and believes that it is not only physical health that is important, but social, emotional and mental development that are needed to make a happier and healthier child.

Prevention

Baby Screenings
Childhood is a period of rapid growth and development. To ensure the best growth for your child from infancy through childhood, well child health screenings and developmental assessments are essential. Adoption screenings are also provided at I-Kidz.

Child Immunisations
Children are our “next generation” and immunisation protects them against serious diseases. These immunisations not only protects your child but the family and the community too. Such preventive care is an important part of raising healthy children.

Educating Parents
Our Specialist has given several talks on Childhood illnesses and prevention, and at I-Kidz, parents are counselled on how to manage and prevent illnesses in their own child. If necessary, parental CPR teaching will be taught. A pre-parent consult can also be arranged for first–time parents to meet our Specialist.

Detection

Early Detection & Treatment
Children’s symptoms can develop very quickly and at I-Kidz, we will try to accommodate urgent appointments for your sick child to be seen on the same day. We ask that you call the clinic to schedule an appointment to avoid unnecessary wait time. If an early appointment is not possible, our staff will refer you to the appropriate specialist. Upon early detection of an illness in a child, our Specialist will discuss with parents the best treatment options. If needed, other specialist referrals may be recommended.

Provision of Specialised Care

Paediatric Intensive Care
As one of the first fully trained Paediatric Intensivist in Singapore, our Specialist is capable of caring for the critically ill child who may be recovering from major surgery or who may be suffering from severe illnesses like cancer or infection.

Neonatal Intensive Care
Our Specialist is accredited to care for critically ill newborn babies, providing continuous care to ensure a healthy development and growth for these young babies through childhood.

Emergency Transport
If medical evacuation is necessary, our Specialist has the expertise to co-ordinate with the various agencies for such transfer.

Paediatric Home Care
Our Specialist team is capable of teaching and caring for children with home care technology like tracheostomy, tube feeding and home ventilation.
